Volume 30, no. 11, p. 2681–2692, 2010, https://doi.org/10.1128/MCB.01480-09. We hereby retract this article. After publication, the article was found to have image duplications in Fig. 5A and 6B, which represent a major deviation from established scientific standards for publication. We did not notice the duplication during submission. The first author indicated that it happened during transfer of images to Photoshop. We apologize for this data misrepresentation. Damaged DNA Binding Protein 2 in Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) Regulation and Premature Senescence
Premature senescence induced by DNA damage or oncogene is a critical mechanism of tumor suppression. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) have been implicated in the induction of premature senescence response. Several pathological disorders such as cancer, aging and age related neurological abnormalities have been linked to ROS deregulation. Here, we discuss how Damaged DNA binding Protein-2 (DDB2), a...
متن کاملB-type lamins and their elusive roles in metazoan cell proliferation and senescence.
Have you seen the recent papers that question the traditional role of B-type lamins in DNA replication and transcription, but highlight an entirely novel yet fundamental role for lamin B1 (LB1) in cell proliferation and cellular senescence? Lamins are the evolutionary progenitors of the intermediate filament superfamily, and constitute the building blocks of the nuclear lamina. They are also a ...
متن کاملMild mitochondrial uncoupling prevents premature senescence in human dermal fibroblasts.
TO THE EDITOR Mitochondrial uncoupling, an increased permeability of the inner membrane to protons not coupled to ATP synthesis, dissipates mitochondrial membrane potential. Mild mitochondrial uncoupling is believed to prolong lifespan of certain model organisms by reducing the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and preventing oxidant damage (Brand, 2000). Indeed, long-lived Caenorhabd...
متن کاملDDB2 suppresses epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition in colon cancer.
Colon cancer is one of the deadliest cancers worldwide because of its metastasis to other essential organs. Metastasis of colon cancer involves a complex set of events, including epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) that increases invasiveness of the tumor cells. Here, we show that the xeroderma pigmentosum group E (XPE) gene product, damaged DNA-binding protein (DDB)-2, is downregulated ...
